Professionals at Murray GeoConsulting have served numerous clients in the public and private sector. The list of activities below are representative of our project engagements over the last 20 years. The Murray GeoConsulting team is experienced and equipped to work with you and to help you reach your goals.

WATER RESOURCES MONITORING & INVESTIGATIONS

  • Sampled domestic water well and surface water impoundments for water quality analysis, and assessed groundwater well yield.
  • Prepared groundwater resource assessment and water appraisal for water supply from Ogallala or High Plains Aquifer region ranch property.
  • Evaluated potential saltwater contamination of creek from oil and gas activities and reviewed investigation by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Environment and Natural Resources Division. (Washington, DC)
  • Conducted phone consultations with various clients regarding potential water resources and petroleum resources investments.
  • Assessed sustainability of spring flow from Ordovician-age carbonate aquifer and suitability for supplying a commercial bottled water plant.
  • Performed field testing of groundwater monitoring wells including slug tests and step-drawdown tests to calculate hydraulic conductivity of shallow aquifer. Monitored groundwater levels, streamflow rates, and precipitation patterns.
  • Developed and taught customized training course titled Ground-Water Resource Assessment and Management. (South Korea)

PETROLEUM AND MINERAL EXPLORATION & DEVELOPMENT

  • Compiled rare earth element (iodine) concentrations by geological zone. Estimated production capacity of iodine-rich Missourian, Desmoinesian, and Morrowan aged formations. Constructed 3D geological model of subsurface, and recommended locations for drilling brine-producing wells.
  • Retained as expert to assess hydrogeological and seismological concerns during permitting and public hearings for Class II Underground Injection Control (UIC) well. (Pennsylvania)
  • Testified before Board of Examiners for permitting of horizontal wells in the Hunton Play.
  • Evaluated injectivity, seismic hazard, and operational considerations for acquiring, siting, and permitting Class II saltwater disposal (SWD) wells in the Permian Basin. (New Mexico and Texas)
  • Investigated mineral resources (silica sand) and assessed potential resource recovery for industrial mining operation.
  • Instructed seminar titled Environmental Issues in Natural Gas Production for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for engineers and attorneys.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE & LITIGATION SUPPORT

  • Retained for expert services to renew permit of Class I Underground Injection Control (UIC) well with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
  • Assessed geological and hydrogeological conditions for defense of stray gas contamination of groundwater wells in Barnett Shale region. (Texas)
  • Provided litigation support and expert services for permitting of Class II SWD well with emphasis on seismic hazard screening. Testified before Administrative Law Judge.
  • Completed third-party review of technical reports regarding wastewater disposal, observed seismicity, and potential impacts to water supply reservoir.  Submitted letter to the British Columbia Oil & Gas Commission (BC-OGC) and British Columbia Oil & Gas Appeal Tribunal in support of defendant’s operational protocols for existing SWD well permit. (British Columbia, Canada)
  • Evaluated regional hydrogeology, water resources, and water quality conditions for defense of groundwater contamination from fertilizer production in District Court case.
  • Conducted field survey and aerial photo analyses to quantify trees impacted by master development plan activities. Testified in jury trial as plaintiff’s expert witness, charging developer with impact of urban development on tree communities protected under Tree Preservation Ordinance. (Texas)

GIS MAPPING & DATA MANAGEMENT

  • Mapped water supply sources and projected water sustainability for large-scale ranch property in Rocky Mountain Region. (Montana and Idaho, USA & Alberta, Canada)
  • Designed relational geodatabase (ArcGIS) for storing, manipulating, and analyzing statewide petroleum related reserves and infrastructure for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). (Wyoming)
  • Implemented relational database and GIS geodatabase for national-level ground-water data integrated with ground-water modeling using MODFLOW. (Kuwait)
  • Constructed digital three-dimensional geological framework models of the subsurface to support County-scale water management planning. (Colorado & Idaho, USA)
  • Developed and delivered Introduction to ArcGIS (Colorado, USA) and GIS for Water Resources courses. (Spain)
